We all know when it is time to replace an old furnace, this often occurs when the winter is approaching or when your furnace starts to have technical failures that require major maintenance.

However, most of the time we wonder what criteria we should use to make the right choice because we do not have much experience and knowledge on the subject. We will be listing the most common furnace problems so you can keep a lookout.

  1. Your furnace is not blowing air: This is a common issue that your furnace might be clogged. Check if the flashing light on your blower is the color red, if so you will need to call a technician to help you repair the issue.
  2. Clogged/ dirty filters: A dirty or clogged filter can reduce your furnace’s function, make sure that your filters are always clean. This can help you save a lot of money.
  3. Damaged heat exchanger: We can tell right away when there is an issue, your heat exchanger separates the warming flame for the air meaning it is keeping your furnace running the way it should be. If it’s overheating your home this is an issue, your heat exchanger could crack and need to be replaced.
  4. Is your furnace making strange noises?: If you hear a pop or rattling noise coming out of your furnace this is an issue caused by loose panels on your oven and the popping noise due to ductwork. Pay attention to any noise your oven could be making.
  5. The thermostat isn’t working: The frequent problem is that your thermostat is not working correctly, a sign is that your fan is constantly running. This can cause your battery thermostat to run and your furnace to slow down or stop working.
